The purpose of Continuing Professional Development is to demonstrate a continuing level of competency of Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Engineers. Every registrant shall meet the professional development requirements as a condition of renewal. Each registrant is required to obtain 30 PDH (Professional Development Hour) during each 2-year renewal period. If the original date of issue on your license is within 6 months of your renewal date you do not have to obtain the PDH’s for your first renewal.
Course approval is left up to the registrant, but the Board has the final say. What the Board is going to be looking at is if the course is technical in nature and pertains to your license. On the renewal form there is a box that states "I certify that I have completed the required Professional Development Hours (PDH) for the license(s) checked below." It then lists your license(s), the number of PDH’s you need, and the dates in which they needed to be done. Then there is a line for your signature. Do not send your log in with your renewal. The only time you would need to send in your log is if you received an audit letter requesting this information.
At this time the Board is not keeping a list of courses. Check with the professional and/or technical societies. Most courses are counted hour-for-hour. For example, if you attend a 3-hour workshop then you would get 3 PDH’s toward your renewal. These can include workshops, in-house courses, web-based course, televised and videotaped courses, seminars, conventions, and college courses. This does not include breaks, lunches or introductions.
